But while I was ftp-ing up a storm doing the WP upgrade, I also set up a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Favicon\">FAVICON.ICO<\/a> for my site. This is what it looks like, up close:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/messofpottage.com\/img\/20061102-favicon-large.png\" alt=\"closeup of favorite icon\" \/>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ll owe you a nickel if you can identify this icon and tell me what it signifies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update.<\/strong> A reader (<em>gasp!<\/em>) asks how I made the <code>ico<\/code> file, whether I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/photoshop\/\">PhotoChop<\/a> or whatever. My answer is, negatory, good buddy. First, why would I spend a fortune on PhotoChop when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gimp.org\/\">the Gimp<\/a> is free <em>(libre<\/em> and <em>gratis<\/em>), unless I needed <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CMYK_color_model\">CMYK<\/a>, which I don&#8217;t. Second, I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imagemagick.org\/script\/index.php\">ImageMagick<\/a>&#8216;s <code>convert<\/code> tool to get the original image to the size I wanted. Then &#8212; I don&#8217;t know why, out of the 6 zillion file formats ImageMagick supports, <code>.ico<\/code> isn&#8217;t one, but no matter &#8212; I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winterdrache.de\/freeware\/png2ico\/\">png2ico<\/a> to convert it to a .ico file.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You shouldn&#8217;t notice any changes.
