But the fans run. A lot. I think someone put a new hard drive in it without considering how Apple makes everything as hard as it can possibly be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twam.info\/hardware\/apple\/installing-additional-ssd-in-mid-2010-27-imac\">details<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/discussions.apple.com\/thread\/3422204\">problem<\/a>. Apple has its own way of sensing the temperature on the hard drive. Because of course they do. And unless you get an Apple branded hard drive, or want to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elvikom.pl\/imac-21-5-27-blad-4sns-1-40000000-th00-9-000-po-wymianie-hdd-t50744.html#p192746\">short the pins<\/a> on Apple&#8217;s HD cable, you have to get a <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/item\/OWC\/DIDIMACHDD09\/\">thermal sensor cable from OWC<\/a>. It only costs $40, plus another $10 to ship to Alaska. (Or you could check first, like I should have, and find out it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/OWC-Digital-Thermal-Sensor-Upgrade\/dp\/B00J42AFUA\">cheaper on Amazon<\/a>, and you get free Prime shipping too. Sigh.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sigh. But!
