{"id":668,"date":"2010-11-19T11:31:10","date_gmt":"2010-11-19T19:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/accretiondisc.com\/blog\/?p=668"},"modified":"2010-11-27T12:04:27","modified_gmt":"2010-11-27T20:04:27","slug":"black-friday-mac-office-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/accretiondisc.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/19\/black-friday-mac-office-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Friday &#8211; Mac Office 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been trying to decide whether to upgrade my old copy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/mac\/products\">Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The problem with Office is that I only use <strong>Word<\/strong>. I&#8217;ve pretty much switched from Excel to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/iwork\/numbers\/\">Numbers<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/iwork\/keynote\/\">Keynote<\/a> is so good that it&#8217;s been years since I even thought about running Powerpoint.<\/p>\n<p>So why upgrade? Well, I do use Word a great deal. And Word 2008 is so slow that I routinely type ahead of it (e.g., when applying different styles to two paragraphs) and get it confused. That&#8217;s when it&#8217;s running. But it&#8217;s so ridiculously slow to load, I always leave it running. Supposedly, it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mactech.com\/2010\/11\/16\/office-2011-benchmarks-3\">faster<\/a> now, especially launching. (Opening <tt><a href=\"http:\/\/www.docx.net\/\">.DOCX<\/a><\/tt> files is faster, but I never use those. I would, if the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winfield.demon.nl\/\">Antiword<\/a> folks would support them, but I&#8217;m content to stick with <tt><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DOC_(computing)\">.DOC<\/a><\/tt> until, well, forever.)<\/p>\n<p>So should I upgrade? Probably. It&#8217;s not a slam dunk, but with these newly-announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tuaw.com\/2010\/11\/18\/office-2011-discounts-for-black-friday\/\">Black Friday prices<\/a> I can probably talk myself into it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been trying to decide whether to upgrade my old copy of Office.
