{"id":677,"date":"2010-12-09T22:33:07","date_gmt":"2010-12-10T06:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/accretiondisc.com\/blog\/?p=677"},"modified":"2010-12-10T05:46:58","modified_gmt":"2010-12-10T13:46:58","slug":"vlc-vs-dvd-player-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/accretiondisc.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/09\/vlc-vs-dvd-player-app\/","title":{"rendered":"VLC vs. DVD Player.app"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DVD_Player_(software)\">DVD Player.app<\/a> has been broken for so long, I honestly can&#8217;t remember the last time I was pleased with it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s very telling that if you go to Apple&#8217;s web site, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/search\/?q=dvd+player\">you can&#8217;t find<\/a> DVD Player there. If I was them, I&#8217;d be ashamed of it too. I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised if Windows Media Player worked better.<\/p>\n<p>Since (at least) Snow Leopard version 10.6.4, and continuing now in 10.6.5, DVD Player has been <em>impossible<\/em>. Routinely it crashes before you get to the main disc menu, and I&#8217;ve probably sent in 20 crash reports.<\/p>\n<p>But no more. I switched to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.videolan.org\/vlc\/\">VLC<\/a>. And you know what? &#8220;It just worked.&#8221; It&#8217;s a shame Apple can&#8217;t make software like that any more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple&#8217;s DVD Player.app has been broken for so long, I honestly can&#8217;t remember the last time I was pleased with it.
