{"id":929,"date":"2015-04-10T10:35:44","date_gmt":"2015-04-10T18:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/accretiondisc.com\/blog\/?p=929"},"modified":"2015-04-10T10:41:38","modified_gmt":"2015-04-10T18:41:38","slug":"podcast-publication-date","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/accretiondisc.com\/blog\/2015\/04\/10\/podcast-publication-date\/","title":{"rendered":"Podcast Publication Date"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks (months?) ago, <a href=\"http:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/jewel-lake-parish-sermon-podcast\/id535040167\">my podcast feed<\/a> quit including a publication date, and I couldn&#8217;t figure it until just the other day. The problem was that my publication tags looked like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-style:none;\"><p><code>&lt;pubDate&gt;Sun, 05 Apr 2015 19:18:25 AKDT&lt;\/pubDate&gt;<\/code>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>but <a href=\"http:\/\/validator.w3.org\/feed\/\">that won&#8217;t validate<\/a>. It never has, but something must have changed in Apple land (either on their servers, or in iTunes) to make the times quit working.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/worldclock\/usa\/anchorage\">AKDT<\/a> isn&#8217;t a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/Protocols\/rfc822\/#z28\">RFC-822 compliant<\/a> time zone. (It assumes that time zones in North America have names that are 3-character strings.) Instead you have to use &#8216;-0800&#8217;. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/worldclock\/usa\/anchorage\">AKST<\/a> isn&#8217;t compliant either, so you have to use &#8216;-0900&#8217;.)<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-style:none;\"><p><code>&lt;pubDate&gt;Fri, 10 Apr 2015 10:24:15 -0800&lt;\/pubDate&gt;<\/code>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks (months?) ago, my podcast feed quit including a publication date, and I couldn&#8217;t figure it until just the other day.
