(Really!)<\/p>\n<p>Since I don&#8217;t have time to keep sinking into Windows, here&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve been doing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is my PC suited for a 32- or 64-bit OS? <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ubuntu.com\/community\/32bit_and_64bit\">ubuntu<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/32-bit-and-64-bit-windows\">windows<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/askubuntu.com\/questions\/41332\/how-do-i-check-if-i-have-a-32-bit-or-a-64-bit-os\">Am I running 32- or 64-bit linux?<\/a><\/li>\n<li>HowtoGeek: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/214571\/how-to-dual-boot-linux-on-your-pc\/\">How to dual-boot linux on your Windows laptop<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/175641\/how-to-boot-and-install-linux-on-a-uefi-pc-with-secure-boot\/\">How to boot and install linux on a PC with UEFI secure boot<\/a> (and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/175649\/what-you-need-to-know-about-using-uefi-instead-of-the-bios\/\">What you need to know about UEFI vs. BIOS<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>How to install <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/en\/install?os=lnx\">Dropbox<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/chrome\/browser\/desktop\/\">Chrome<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Then, after you install: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linuxandubuntu.com\/home\/8-things-to-do-after-installing-ubuntu-1504-vivd-vervet\">8 things<\/a> to do, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omgubuntu.co.uk\/2015\/04\/things-to-do-after-installing-ubuntu-15-04\">11 things<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tecmint.com\/things-to-do-after-installing-ubuntu-15-04-desktop\/\">15 things<\/a> and maybe some utilities like these <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omgubuntu.co.uk\/2014\/11\/useful-tools-for-ubuntu-do-you-use-them\">11 utilities<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve done all that, remember to install an ssh server:<\/p>\n<pre>sudo apt-get install openssh-server<\/pre>\n<p>Also, install <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sstephenson\/rbenv\">rbenv<\/a> (and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sstephenson\/ruby-build\">ruby-build<\/a>) and a ruby or two.
